Issues with fresh ubuntu build

i recently built a new machine and loaded ubuntu 14.04 onto it. I ran prime95 for about 36 hours straight and no errors. I installed Android studio and it crashed over night and ever since my computer has been slowwwwwww

programs open slow booting takes over 2 minutes.

terminal takes a while sometimes too

This is a 5820k build with 8gb of 2400mhz memory i also boot off of a mushikin ssd.

how might i debug the situation? I have a feeling there is something going on within system files but i am new to linux and I would like to get this resolved as i literally cant do a thing.

I check system monitor and i am barely using my cpu and memory so that is not the issue

is there someplace i can go check a list of issues that are occuring?

after running sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda the results are

Timing cached reads:
2 MB in 26.98 seconds = 75.90 kB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 2 MB in 30.33 seconds = 67.52 kB/sec

could this be caused by core dumps? I do not know how to remove core dumps but when android crashed it made one (i assume because i found some)

I feel like this shouldnt be a hardware issue since this machine was 10000000x faster than this even while running prime95

thanks for all the help im prolly gonna reinstall ubuntu

Seems like the best bet. If I knew more about Linux I might be able to help. Perhaps some of the more experienced users might chime in, if not maybe take your question to an Android Studio related forum as they may have more experience with this type of issue.
