Issue when starting up computer

I built my computer today and everything was running smoothly until I tried to start it. It booted up for 5-10 seconds perfectly, then it would just shut down.

I've tried removing the CMOS battery, I've tried pushing every wire into place and nothing seems to be working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can supply a parts list if needed.

yes please list your parts exactly.

Graphics/Processor: AMD A10-5800K 3.8GHz FM2 4MB 100W Black Edition

Power Supply: Corsair 430W Builder Series CX 80+ Bronze ATX Power Supply

Hard Drive: WD 1TB Blue SATA 6GB/s 7200RPM 64MB 3.5" Hard Drive

Ram: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz CL9 Vengeance Low Profile Black Performance Desktop Memory Kit

Case: N-Series N200 USB 3.0 Micro-ATX Case

Motherboard: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 AMD FM2 A75M DDR3 mATX

maybe it's a short somewhere?

Check your memory, Only put one stick in and try booting, then try the other stick. Ive had similar issues when a stick of ram was acting up.

Yea much like how NitroDeamon just said. This could be an issue that is quite common. Try resiting the ram. At first take them both out and then put one back in. Try booting like this.

I cant really imagine it being a short anywhere unless is a relatively new system or if theres a lot of dust.

I've been having a similar problem and made a post about it. A lot of people offered suggestions (no luck yet unfortunately) so you could use it as a checklist of things to try.

Update: the computer simply won't turn on at all. I tried taking the RAM out, and putting it back in.

ensure your cpu is supported with your current bios, current bios should be right on the board next to your motherboard name (i think MSI does that) rev.******  Sometimes if something is not supported by your motherboard and/or BIOS your computer simply will not react at all. Your CPU should work if you have v11 or later (via MSI website CPU support list)

does it have a speaker out on the motherboard? near the case connectors? if so, plug one in, if you don't have one, you'll have to find one, unless your motherboard supports post over regular speakers, then make sure you have some plugged into the back i/o

getting some input like beeps would help you diagnose.

Some motherboards will let you know if no CPU is present, if yours does, it be a great way to help troubleshoot. remove all hardware, cpu/ram/perifs, and see what kind of post error you get. if it does give you some feedback, then start with just the cpu next, then ram, then yada yada yada.

after an attempted boot, feel your cpu heatsink immediately, is it hot? it should have very little heat after such a quick uptime.

hope you can get it figured out, thats a bummer after building a new pc

Clarify your update, is this a change in behavior? or are you trying to simplify the symptom?

I changed the RAM and it just won't start.

Update again: When I switched it on at the wall, the fan and heatsink started spinning. They then turned off within 2-3 seconds.

make sure all your components are plugged in, especially your CPU (cpu and motherboard power both plugged in, these are separate connectors on the mobo). Also make sure nothing is keeping any fans from spinning. If that fails try jumping your PSU and do some maths to be sure it provides sufficient power.

I have everything working, but now I can't boot from a USB. I think I have the right settings but I get the error:

"Reboot and select proper boot device"

gonna share what the problem was? just curious.

using a legacy usb2.0 port? usb 3.0 can still be wonky for boot devices sometimes. or communications like pdanet, game controllers, ect.

if everythings workin i'de lean more towards making sure your usb stick is alright, test it on another pc?

anddd what you installin there? again just curious. linux? just gonna say that apu's on linux still suck, well... at least i haven't had any luck. just switched over to steam os and having the same problem i had a few months ago in ubuntu. poor video performance. does work for inhome streaming tho

The problem was that the motherboard connector wasn't firmly in, a very obvious mistake that I should have seen.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate.

Base on what you said about it turning right off, it it a very high chance of a bad power supply. Try using a different PSU and see if it stays on.

o alright, then just go ahead and double check ur usb, if it's good, try and usb 2.0, and bring up your boot menu, F11? i donno i can't remember right now.
