Mine was, until I changed its thermal paste.

I have the 8600 gts.


The original thermal paste had it idle at 60c, and 85c at full load at 100% fan speed

The newly added arctic silver 5 has it idling at

I have not tested it yet on full load.


On a side note: When I opened it up, there were these "dual sided tapes" things touching the cooler and the memory. What a cheap way of cooling the memory. I just threw those away and added my thermal paste.


I'll edit this when I see the temperatures on full load.

neat, maybe i should do mine, my 9800 gtx's run pretty high too. does it void warrenty?

depends who you have, if you have EVGA i think its ok, not sure, i think you have to keep the memory pads, though.

My warranty already expired, that's why I did it to mine.


And yeah, it does. If you open it up it voids it.


So if yours still has a valid warranty, don't do it. Unless you really want to do it for OC'ing/cooling purposes.


You have to keep the memory pads? Those tear easily. Does the thermal paste not work as well as the pads?

I guess if you put your own thermal grease they wouldnt know, unless you did it to the memory.. then you'd have to put the pads back on i guess.

Then EVGA products are safe. haha. Stupid PNY... I should have gotten EVGA.. It has the 512 memory oppose to my 256, and has lifetime warranty.

my intergrated graphics is like at 50 degrees celcius

Just got done from checking on its full load.


Full load 60c on 70% fan speed. That's a big improvement. I can actually OC it a bit further.
