They just started rolling out Window 10 where I work. 200+ sites across Australia. The first guy on our site to get it hasn't been able to access email for over a week now.

For Win7 maybe. I do not have a Win8 ISO on hand, so that might get difficult.
My take from what I have read so far, is that at least the camera/microphone and position tracking stuff is hidden in one of the "secruity updates". Because I have general trust issues with M$, Google/Android, Apple, Facebook/Whatsapp, Twitter, Amazon and so on, I bet the keyboard and filecrawling is also somewhere in the updates.

That'll let you pick any ISO, including Win8. Not trying to egg you on to doing the test, but it's a handy trick to know if you actually need to grab an ISO. As far as I can tell the JS doesn't steal your firstborn or something else particularly nasty.

Anyway - yeah. I suspect it'll be much the same as well but what gets me is the privacy policies of 10 and 7 must surely differ. With 10 you explicitly opt in to being spied on because you agree to that in the TOC which you definitely read. 7 I'm not sure has the same specifications in its TOCs, so if the spying is at the same level then that is very interesting indeed.

There simply isn't the spying in the way people seem to think there is. But if you choose to run any non-free operating system you pays your money and takes your choices (as my grandad used to say).

Microsoft is bringing Windows 10 to phones, Apple's got their own OS for desktop as well as for iPhone. Imagine what would happen if Google decided to bring Android to desktop. Heads would explode. EXPLODE.

Don't mention Remix OS or Chrome OS. I'm talking about a real Android OS designed entirely by Google for desktop. Of course it would be spyware like everything else from Google, but I bet it would become a real competitor to Microsoft. People like Android. And you need a big install base to make companies like Adobe pay attention to your OS. Unlike most other Linux developers, Google has the resources to pull in a large install base that would consist mostly of people that are already using Android on their phones and tablets. Something like that could spark a real Linux revolution.

I just read an article yesterday about the possible 'death' of MS as Apple and Google may take over MS's last front.

I tried to get the x86 port of Remix running in a VM a few nights ago but didn't finish. Went to x86 android's site and was surprised to see they teamed up with the Remix team-- I downloaded the ISO immediately haha. I'm really interested in it.

I really like the continuum idea- sad that Canonical started it but couldn't deliver, then the next was Windows Phone. I'm looking forward to when Android delivers on that experience. But the same article had points as to Google going the way of Microsoft as far as business ethics and model goes. I'm a big user of google services now, but who knows what they will be like years from now...
