I want to play modern games (bf4, crysis 3, etc.) at 1440p high settings (not ultra) with 50+ frames per second at all times 60hz refresh rate.

Hell no. That card is a Good Enough 1080p Card. if you want 1440p consider a R9-290. or GTX 780.
for Future Reference, or at least for now good sir.
In the scale of terrible to holy shit its around "good enough"
Also for reference everything listed under "DAMN" and "HOLY SHIT" are very good candidates of Excellent cards that are capable of gaming in 1440p at Acceptable frame-rates
I see, thanks. I was going to buy that nice 1440p display to game, but now, I'll just stick with 1080p.
The build is fine for 1440p except the video card. The 270x will struggle with 1440p. You will need at least a R9 280x, GTX770 2gb or R9 290. Depending how big your 1080p monitor is and panel type, going to 1440p may not gain you much other than a bigger screen with the same quality.
OP please select from the HOLY SHIT category if you want 1440P gaming lol
Dude just stick with 1080p until you move up the the graph and reach level "HOLY SHIT!" And then aspire to get a 1440p that has "HOLY SHIT!" Written all over it.
Kinda like this monitor.

2x7970's struggle avg. 60FPS with crysis 3 at 1080p *ultra detail + no AA*
1x 290x or 1x780Ti will have comparable or worse performance.
Crysis 3 destroys every gpu. at 1440P even a GTX780Ti or 290X will strugle, to keep it arround 30 fps.
If you want 1440p take some of the stuff you don't need out of there, loose the ssd and the CPU cooler. Get a 212+ or evo for a heck if alot cheaper. Then use that money to buy a 290. Even the CPU could be swapped the the 8320 and with a mild oc you could get it to 8350 performance. Even the k70 is overkill, but it is a pretty sweet keyboard.
Would two R9 270Xs be enough though for 1440p gaming? He could just buy another 270X and crossfire since his motherboard has 2 PCIe x16 slots. Two 270Xs should be faster than a single 280X which is good enough for 1440p.
the r9 270x would not have the vram necessary for modern or future games at 1440p.
Besides, for compatibility's sake it's better to go with one very powerful gpu rather than 2 "eh" gpu's, even though the 2 "eh" may be faster in benchmarks.
A single R9 270X can play a lot of games on medium at 1440p but two I would assume would greatly increase the perforamce. It is hard to find any benchmark results with R9 270X's in crossfire but this shows it can perform on medium by itself.
