I was looking up the mobo for my htpc i am building(from used parts) on youtube, and i can across this video.

If you did not notice he is running a 20+4 pin psu when the mobo looks like it needs a 24+4 pin.
Can you do that? and is it safe? if not what could happen?
He is connecting a 20pin main power connector into a 24pin motherboard. There is no such standard as a 28pin (or 24+4). It's possible (as the video shows), but the motherboard won't get the full power it needs which can cause all sorts of problems. I wouldn't exactly call it safe. Not that it poses any personal harm, but probably not good for the stable operation.
I'm not 100% sure as to what would happen, but I suspect some components might not run at full speed, and the system may abruptly shut off periodically.
The extra pins were added for the PCI-E slots. Older boards didn't need more 12v runs. You're still getting 12v going to the board so it can run fine. This video confuses me a little cause he is using the PCI-E slot.
Noticed he has no HDD, optical, or other PCI cards.
i did not mean a 28 pin lol i meant a 24 pin with the another 4 pin over by the cpu.
