Hi,
I wish to build a media centre PC and want to know if these components are good enough for decoding HD content. As well having enough power for say 550 watt psu?
The build I wish to build is:
CPU:
Intel Celeron G1850 (2.9GHz Dual Core)
CPU Cooler:
RECOMMEND ME ONE FOR A HTPC
MOBO:
ASUS H81M-E Motherboard
GPU:
GTS 450 gigabyte 1 GB
RAM:
4gb of 1333 MHz (G SKILL 2 sticks of x2)
HDD:
250GB HDD for windows applications like: Windows media player, VLC, Mozilla, chrome, anti
virus protection ect)
Maybe a 60GB ssd for windows.
With an external 4tTB HDD for movie storage.
Not worried about the external as its a plug and play device.
PSU: Antec 550 Watt True power 80+ bronze
and a few fans say 4 noctua or NZXT fans.
Do you think the 550 watt that I have listed is enough to power all these components?
You don't need an extra gpu for decoding a simple hd stream, a 450 sucks power, htpc's (not for gaming) don't need that power. Intel HD on that cpu is fine for HD content.
Cooling depends, if you want cheap: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/arctic-cooling-cpu-cooler-acalp11pror2
If you want more high-end and or better performance: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/scythe-cpu-cooler-scsk1100
550 Watt's is waaaaay overkill, even for peak performance, when watching movies won't hit that. Worst case peak performance including the ridiculous choice of gpu, lots of usb, lots of fans, more ram, cap aging... will never exceed 400W. To save power you want to go as low as possible. If you sensibly go with integraded graphics grab 350W of psu.
