if you have any suggestion they would be welcome as this is my first build
I'm a newbie to pc building, so I cant tell you if this is good or not...but you should list you build on pcpartspicker.com cause this layout is very confusing. Also you should mention what your hoping to get out of this pc.
Well it would work but there are some issues. Most notably the CPU and motherboard combination.
The 4670k is an unlocked CPU. You have a B85 motherboard. Either you want to over clock or you don't. If you want to you're gonna wanna get a Z87/97 board and an aftermarket cooler. If you don't want to OC then there is no reason to buy the k CPU. A regular 4670 would be fine. You may also want to check out the Xeon 1230v3. It costs about the same as the 4670k and can't be OCed but it is essentially an i7-4770 without the iGPU. So you get a quad core with hyperthreading for much cheaper.
If you wanna stick with the 4670/4690k then get a different motherboard. Like an Asus Z97-A and a decent aftermarket cooler like a Noctua NH-U12/14s. If you wanna stick with that motherboard get a 4670 or a Xeon 1230v3 for it.
You'd prob be able to find cheaper RAM. Corsair RAM is usually very overpriced. RAM is RAM.
The 280X from AMD is also a good option. It is usually a bit faster than a 770 and cheaper. Plus you'd have more VRAM.
You don't need an ODD and just buy Windows 8.1 so you don't have to download the update.
Also try to grab an SSD. It will make a huge difference.
All good builds. As the one member said ram is ram. You could good with many other brands of 1600mhz ram and will not know the difference. Me personally I cannot live without a DVD optical drive because I have lots of software I still use on disc and I like to watch DVDs on my PC as well. I also prefer to have an actual Windows disc instead of a digital copy. The original Asus B85 motherboard you had picked out should be capable of over clocking, the Z boards aren't the only ones that can over clock, they usually just have better looks and some extra features.
