and "todays gaming rigs" is somewhat of a misnomer as technology has been stagnating with little progress in the past 5 or so years with GPUs and CPUs only advancing 5-10% per generation

5 years ago people were using a 8800GTX and a Q6600, I'd say its progressed a tad bit more than 6-10% per genneration

Not necessarily for a gaming rig, but I feel that any modern computer should have an SSD in it.
