it's like once i have skype installed that thing starts being everywhere. Randomly popping up. doing things without permission. Is there a way i can run skype without installing it? Should i install it and then run it in sandbox? i kind of need to use skype for work.
Sandbox is your best bet.
Yeah, Sandbox or VM, whatever you prefer.
will that stop skype from running in the background all the time lol
What do you mean by this? What starts poping up randomly?
What does it do?
Login to your outlook account in your browser.
Or don't use skype.
You can stop it running automatically or in the background, buy that kind of defeats the purpose of it.
Lots of windows app like to add themselves to startup and run in background. Fix that then whenever you are done with a program use task manager to kill or cmd. It's a communication platform it will always run unless you force it closed.
Make a skype-specific user with limited network access and permissions, and a startup script that prompts that user to run skype when you click the icon.
If you're on windows, I don't think there's a great solution...
There is skype for web:
I suppose that there is something like a simple option to not run it at startup?
I mean if you are not running skype it wont decide to connect itself right?
+1, I use Skype for Web for running a modern version of Skype under Linux.
Look, there's a lot of reasons to dislike Skype, but it taking control of things? I don't think so...you might need to be more specific here, buddy.
My Skype is not invasive - it runs when I want it to run, and it closes when I want it to close, and it updates when I want it to update (except if I keep telling it not to update it eventually stops asking and then updates anyways...that's a REAL reason to dislike skype).
When you install skype, make sure just to tick the boxes you want, and after it is installed, make sure to go through the user preferences to adjust skypes functionality as you want.
Additionally, you can remove ads from skype too by adding the ads pipeline to your firewall - google it "Remove ads on skype".
i just havent had skype installed for a long time is why i was a little paranoid about it. Just a little sorry for sounding too alarmed about it. Thanks guys!
