Is there a way to keep certain files when upgrading to Windows 8?

So I really want to upgrade to windows 8 but I do not have an external (or spare) hard drive that I can use to store the files I want to keep. Is there a way I can go about doing this?

Ideally I just want to keep certain files like music, pictures, app settings, etc. No programs or drivers.

Yes, create a d partition and put your stuff on there.

This is a good guide, just make sure you make the new volume big enough to fit all your desired files within.

Awesome, I wasn't aware of that thanks.

One more question. Can I move my entire steam folder over to the new partition and keep all my saves / configs? Would I also have to reinstall steam to work on windows 8?
