For a while now I picked out a HIS Raedon HD 7870 IceQx edition like Logan has highly recomended, but I noticed the one I picked out was different, I then saw the one he was promoting was the HIS Raedon HD 7870 IceQx Turbo, and I want to know is the extra $33 worth it to get whatever benefits the turbo may have?
The Turbo ver.'s base clock has been raised from 1000Mhz( 1.0Ghz) to 1100Mhz( 1.1Ghz), so it runs a little faster( and warmer).
If you can OC yourself, then no.
If you can't, and you can spend the money for something faster, than yes.
If the price of the Turbo ver. is near the price range of a decent 7950, then get the 7950 instead
My main thought was from what Logan has previously said about the card, that it had a seperate cooling unit on top that wasn't a part of the card itself, that could provide additonal cooling.
Do you mean the 'Black Hole Impeller'? Both versions have them. It's just some fancy cooling that HIS designed( but actually works well)
When I checked the one I originally picked out it didn't have it, only a prebuilt fan, here, http://pcpartpicker.com/part/his-video-card-h787f2g2m that's the one I originally picked out. And thanks for the response and input.
Oh, that one. The other one( if it's this one) has better cooling and a faster clock, so it does have some benefit. If it's this one, than only the difference is the better cooling. So unless you're gonna OC, it has no benefit.
The one you listed's lowest price point( Newegg) is out of stock though, so you should consider an XFX one, or the second one I linked. If you like the HIS one, remember that it's fairly long. Some cases won't fit it
The first one you listed was the exact one I was looking at upgrading to, and Im going to spend the next couple days making sure everything will fit in my case. Once again, thank you.
