Hello,
I thought I read somewhere that there was something that could be turned off in the bios if your board still booted to keep the avr54 bug from happening, however I cannot find any references to it. I’m hoping my google-fu is just bad, as I don’t own a soldering iron. I don’t want to snipe up a C2758 for a router for it to just die in three months. Not all the ebay sellers I’ve contacted know the stepping code or are willing to take the time to look it up.
If I recall correctly, the fix involves soldering a resistor to the TPM header. If you don’t want to solder, and don’t need ready access to the TPM header, you could get a TPM plug and pins and crimp the resistor into the plug. Insert plug into the TPM header et voila! no soldering. Or maybe just get some bare plugs that will sit on the header and go crazy with the crimping.
Hopefully that makes sense, I might not be using the terminology correctly.
Don’t quote me on this… Unless it turns out to be correct. But I think it had something to do with the “Watchdog” timer. I too read something about turning that feature off and possibly saving the boards.
Edit: Take this with a grain of salt… Just cuz some guy said it on the internet… But if it works for you then by all means get a good deal on some hardware
