Is the PS Vita worth buying?

Hey everybody,  I have a question: Is the PS Vita really worth buying?  I own a Nintendo 3DS, but the Vita is begining to appeal to me.  Does anyone own it that can tell me if it was worth purchasing?  Right now I am a little disappointed with my 3DS, have definately logged less than 20 hours and have had it 10 months :/.  Please help

I personally love my Vita. If you do get one I highly recommend Gravity Rush.

Depends. The VIta is a great handheld, but currently lacks the game library it needs to appeal to a wider audience. It has great graphics and a lot of features packed into one. Don't bother getting the 3G, though. If you have an unlimited cellular data( doesn't really need to be unlimited, but it's safer), use that cell as a mobile hotspot. It's gonna be more useful and cost effective than buying the 3G+ WiFi model, plus it's faster, especially if you're phone uses 4G or LTE.

I say it's worth it, and the library is slowly but surely growing. There are also current games that look good, like Uncharted: The Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush( Gravity Daze) and Persona 4. Plus, there's the soon( hopefully) to be released Phantasy Star Online 2, which will be a cross-platform MMORPG( currently available for Windows, but will be available for Android, iOS, Mac and the Vita later this year). That's gonna be really interesting, and is what is drawing me to purchase my own( though I'm not the biggest fan of MMOs, but the thought of a handheld MMO game, or MMO gaming on the go, is appealing to me).

I like my vita, but your best bet is to look at the games that are out there, and decide if you really want to buy them.  I got mine on Amazon.com's black friday sale.  $180 for the white system with AC:Liberation, 3 months of PS+, and Playstation All-stars (Which is awesome).

If you're paying for PS+ right now,  as soon as you buy your vita, you're going to get Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Wipeout, Jet Set Radio, FF:Tactics and Mutant Blobs Attack for free.

Also, when you consider buying the system, plan on getting yourself the biggest memory card you can afford.  Mulitple memory cards is kid of a pain since the system can't hotswap you have to reboot each time you swap, and the games can be pretty big.  Games are starting to ship with a Vita version included, PS Allstars and Sly 4 do this.  It's great when you save the game on your system, and are able to pick up and play the same game on your Vita.  When I saw Sly 4 in action at PAX last year, I made the desicion to buy a Vita.

Ooo, as well, it's linked to one PSN account, so you can't share it. (Well, you can but it's a huge pain in the ass)  Just something to keep in mind if your girlfriend or siblings want to play it as well.  Some games come with multiple save slots, but it's really made to be one persons toy.  I have to save up to get my Girlfriend one.  Or get me one, since she always steals mine.

Thanks for the really helpful post, but I think im going to wait for a better library and when I have enough cash, because right now im saving for my first car.

The car is definitely more important, LOL

It worth every penny. I got White AC3L on black friday for 180. Eventhough I have not finish the game, I still like the handheld. I spend most of the time doing digital paiting on my Vita. This is what I did 2 days ago on my Vita.

Wow, just. I though of using it to draw to, but I was thinking it's not gonna be accurate. Maybe I'll give it a try

So yeah, just bought the bundle with Black Ops last Sunday. Single player is somewhat unpolished, but multiplayer is really fun, though with the small maps( they have a small part of Nuke Town in it, with one house and it's surrounding area, called Nuke House), If Infinity Ward developed this, instead of Nihilistic, it could have been better. I went half way through single player, and now just play multi because it's so repetetive. It doesn't even have check points, so if you die mid game, you have to go back and restart it. Multi also has problems. It sometimes disconnects on its own, sometimes it wont connect at all. Also, the very firmware of the Vita also has problems. You need to check one of the boxes in the WiFi options if you want to connect to PSN. I'm not sure if every Vita has this, but I read others experiencing this.

But you have to admit, the graphics are great for a console, and I love the dual analog sticks. The 5 inch OLED screen is gorgeous. The internet connection is sort of slow, but I can deal with it. Touch is good, but is sometimes unresponsive. Battery life is enough for me, but it would have been great if they made it better. They need to increase the capacity of the game cards, though, to fit more elaborate games( if I remember correctly, it's only 3.5GB).

Overall, I like it. Current games are pretty decent, though the library is on the small side. But it's just starting out, and games are only gonna get better. Every console had its better games( graphically) later on in it's life. If they release Skyrim or a Batman Arkham game on it, this could become really successful.

I feel like the console sometimes trying to keep up with what I'm doing. Maybe I always do intesive stuff, that's why. Having PS Plus membership is a BIG plus because those free games are really nice. I love Gravity Rush, and FF Tatics. Everything is a step above PSP, but I hope the weight is a bit lighter, because I don't feel comfortable holding it for hours. Overall, it's the real successor of PSP.

One of the best handheld gaming devices that I've ever had, puts my Gameboys and DSs to shame. Persona 4 Golden is also one of the best games I've ever played. The selfish part of me is going to say yes because I want more people so there will be more games, but you gotta weigh the value yourself.

I'll sell you mine with a case, 4 gig card, and like 10 games. $250 shipped to your door.

My friend has a vita, and its very cool and fun, but is limited because he doesnt have a PS3. I'd rather have a PS3 than a Vita. Just my opinion though.

if the ps4 can do the things with a vita that sony said it can, at the conference... I would definitely be thinking about getting one

but prices seem to be going down and a lot of people ive seen selling it, so you might need to make a choice

Why so many words in this thread? A simple 'no' would suffice.

Get PlayStation Vita, its a monster for a handheld and its close to a PS3 in graphics. You can do gaming like on Wii-u almost since you can stream game from PlayStation 3 and soon from PlayStation 4 to your Vita!! :D

I love my vita, PS+ gives you a bunch of awesome games for both the vita and PS3. Wipeout is a ton of fun, so is uncharted and mutant blobs attack. I'm a huge pinball fan and there's some great pinball options between the pinball arcade and zen pinball 2

in terms of memory, I'm fine with my 8gb card, but if you're worried about space I'd suggest just going with a 16gb card. The cards aren't cheap and hopefully sony will make them cheaper eventually, and then you could upgrade if you really needed to.

Guys, I don't know if this is worth mentioning, but they released Phantasy Star Online 2 for the Vita last Feb. 28( or 27, can't  remember). Sadly, it's only for Japan PSN accounts( though you could play it with another account region. You just need to buy the cartridge version of it, but DLCs will be a problem, as you need a Japanese PSN account to access the Japan store to download them), but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is released for North America.
