I kinda like to look at what people are not talking about. The 1070 looks like it may be a great card for many gamers. It seems to be a big improvement over the 970 and much better bang for the buck. I love seeing reviews of both what I dream of having and what I actually might purchase IRL. What do you guys think?
There's no third party benchmarks yet so...ya
Just hoping polaris 10 can compete with the 1070 at least
I think regardless of whether or not you are a fan of nVidia or AMD, wait for the new AMD cards
Usually, for me atleast, it is wait for when my wife is in a really good mode.
There will be focus on the 1070 closer to when it gets released and when reviewers put out their coverage. Until then, literally all there is to go off is guess work. So, just wait for the numbers.
Not ignoring. I already put my current card for sale before it drops too far down in value and am waiting for the 1070. I'm not exactly ignoring AMD but I just have little hope at this point that they will fix the hardware reset issues around GPU passthrough when they haven't had it working in their last 3 or so generations of GPUs.
JayzTwoCents might have a video up tomorrow/today on the 1070.
1080 first because that creates more hype and sheep thinking they buy the performance of 'almost' 1080 when they get a 1070.
It's like buying a bicycle made by Ferrari. (You know what I mean even tho I'm exagerating)
It might be a good card but the price is out of the range of most consumers.
Nvidia still seems to have problems. Look at benchmarks of Total War: Warhammer. Fury X beats 1080 in some scenarios. DX12 tests are a mixed bag so far.
May I ask what card you have?
1070 will have a bit more love once it start dropping benchmarks. Now the 1080 is the literary HOT news If you see what I did there...
The thing is, Nvidia is heavily marketing the 1080 everywhere. And the 1070 is expected to be heavily cut down version, performing exactly as 980Ti... So yeah...
Huh, GPU pass through is almost the sole domain of AMD with consumer cards as nVida completely disables it. I would like to know what your basis for this is.
Other wise the 1070 at this point in time does not exist outside nVidia.
One I sold was the GTX 970
Both AMD and Nvidia have some issues with passthrough. Nvidia, being Nvidia, has everything working perfectly but tries to artificially lock down features in software. Virtualization is one of these. Fortunately there are simple workarounds and there is little performance loss from using them.
AMD on the other hand has had issues in hardware. Many AMD cards used in passthrough can end up in a finicky state (technical term) when the guest is shutdown or rebooted. In this state, the card can no longer be reused properly in passthrough until the host OS is restarted to fully "reset" the card to a clean state. The frequency of the issue depends on the architecture and some have workarounds that work most of the time. Some may not be bothered by this if they reboot the host frequently or never reboot the guest. For me I use the host as a server for storage and all home networking VMs in addition to a desktop VM so it was a deal breaker to have happen even once.
I myself will be ignoring it :D
I reckon my 390x will do me for another year and a half... and by then even more graphical hardware goodness should be on the scene
sounds like amd will have comparable card coming out soon that will be equal or better then the 1070 cheaper. ofc we wont know for sure until they are out and benchmarked, but some of the many leaks look promising and nvidia promises the moon all the time and fails to deliver. this gen amd will probably win in budget builds.
Pop the question right after sex, problem solved.....
In light of recent AMD driver releases, I'm thinking the same. Still interested in whether a polaris card is going to meet 390x performance, the 390x is a bit too high in the TDP department for my tastes.
