I just read through the 4.4 kernel additions, and it sounds like a big push with the kernel is improvements in virtualization technology. Currently as I understand it sharing a video card through hardware passthrough isn't possible, since Linux has some issues with unbinding and rebinding hardware. Not being able to share 1 card / sli setup is the only thing that's holding me back from ditching a dual boot setup. Is sharing 1 graphics adapter something that might happen in the near future? I'm also curious if it's theoretically possible for both Windows and Linux to share access to a card at the same time.
