Is my laptop repairable?

So my laptop, the ROG Strix G16 2023 is dead. Not even 2 years old. Took this to a laptop repair guy, told me it’s a short circuit and said that he won’t be able to repair it. I took it to 2 more shops who also said the same thing. And since the warranty has expired ASUS gave me a quote for the replacement motherboard of at least 50%+ of the original price. Found a guy on Reddit with the same problem and the quote he got was $1200. (Insane price)

I guess what Im asking is that is may laptop even repairable?

I added the photos of the damage.

First question is: why did it short in the first place? What happened/did you do to it?

I take it you’re not in EU-land as the EU mandates a 24month warranty from date of purchase from the manufacturer.

Yes and no.

Usually replacing one or two tiny components will fix the issue.

But a talented repairer has to do the diagnosis.

@Dutch_Master didn’t do anything. I used it for 3 hours the previous night and when I tried to turn it on the next day, it won’t. It had no power. It’s not an isolated case many have shared the same problem online. I bought it off Amazon and they only give 1 year warranty.

@vic in the picture I uploaded. It’s the PCB near G8 that shorted. You can see the burn damage on the fan’s screw hole.

Really sorry to hear, and also thanks for the heads up! Since you mentioned that this is a known issue with this ASUS model, it might be worthwhile to send an email with your pictures and links to those other reports to Steve Burke at gamersnexus about it. He has a history of getting ASUS to (eventually) doing right by their customers.

As for me, I don’t have that exact ASUS laptop myself (it’s from ASUS, however), but it’ll add to my caution buying another laptop from them. There is no good reason for an unmodded laptop to short out after just over a year.

The fried traces will be easy to fix.

But when the short circuit happened, it very likely fried a few other components. Those need to be diagnosed and replaced.

It depends on the issue. If parts are available and damage isnt severe its usually repairable. Getting a technician’s diagnosis helps.
