Is my GPU relevant?

Been lurking through a couple of forms about the new GPUs and their power for 4K games, but I'm a bit confused on if my GPU is obsolete or is the hype for new GPUs got me messed up. My birthday is coming up and I'm racking in the overtime on my job. Should I try to get a new GPU and if so which should I get or should I just keep everything to same and wait?

I currently have a XFX R9 280 (3GB), FX 6300, GA-970A-D3SP Mobo, XFX 850 PSU, and Crucial Ballistix 4GB x 2 with a Hyper 212 cooler for the CPU.

I was thinking about getting an R9 390 because I've heard good things for people who still game at 1080p, but I have no friggin clue. Been basically gaming ported games with mods, nothing too serious.

Thanks ahead of time.

You're 280 is more than sufficient for 1080p. Wait for a price jump or the next gen tknuograde

Your GPU is still relevant. It's still an excellent GPU for 1080P gaming and mild 1440P. I would just advise maybe considering an upgrade for next generation. Unless you want to pick up a 380, it's an efficient 280 but it's faster and has support for all of AMD's features. AND there's a 4GiB model now.

Just wait around for Zen to upgrade your CPU. Depending of course if zen is a flop or not.
