Is it worth it to buy a gtx 980 ti?

So I wanted to buy a Inno3D GTX 980 TI iChill X3 Ultra but after reading some threads in this forum I am not convinced yet.
I have a 1440p so I need a gpu which can push new games at 1440p and max settings but people say that pascal is comming 2016 so I don't know if I should wait or not.
For how long will the gtx 980 ti last?
Should I wait for the next gen?

Maybe I should just buy a console and be happy T_T

Don't fret over it. Anything tech related you buy, something better comes out 2 weeks later. The 980 Ti is an absolute monster of a graphics card, and it will remain relevant for some time yet before you would even have to consider being worried.

And what is this whole DirectX 12 support thing?
Will the gtx 980 ti support it or not? Should I even care?

I just posted a topic about upgrading to a 980ti from a 780SC. Based on input I was told to wait. It has been 6 months since 980ti release. A new generation of cards should be out soon. If you can, I would wait.

The 980 Ti supports DX12.

The thing is that I use the onboard gpu right now :/
And I read that Pascal will be released in like 6 month or even later thats like half a year or a forth of 2 years.
A long time in my eyes.

The Pascal release wont render a 980 Ti useless. Not by any stretch of the imagination. You'd be looking at Titan X performance with a bit of an overclock. The card is great and will be for a long time yet.

I am hearing Q1 release that is not far away.

I would get the 980 ti. Don't base a purchase off of rumors. My single 980 can max games out at 1440p at 60 fps and that's without an overclock so the 980 ti should blow thing out of the water at 1440p

im waiting for the new monster cards
a single 980ti wont push 4k @ 60

I'm sure someone else could explain it but I've read many people on this sight saying that the current set of nvidia cards don't support dx12 as much as they say they do.

I dunno though. All mumbo jumbo.

I'm not going to aim for 4k because this shit's expensive and I'm pretty happy with 1440p. I owned a xbox 360 and a shitty 720p notebook so everything above 1080p is just mindblowing to me.

I don't even have enough space for a 39' :D
But it doesn't seem to be a bad deal.
For what do you use the screen for? Are you editing pictures or videos or something like that?

i watch imgur and youtube and play games at 1080p
because my 970 cant push the 4k

Isn't the 1080p you see a "fake" 1080p if you use fullscreen mode because the monitor needs to fill in the empty pixels? How bad is it really? Do you see the difference?

yes its worth it.

1440p screen and a enjoyment for games? Sure it's worth it. I would say go for it, have a blast :)

There are always new stuff coming in about a year or so. Heck, there will be new consoles before too long. Get what you need now, have more fun that way.

Pay no heed to DX12, it will remain pretty irrelevant for at least another year. Probably longer as all games I've seen that are developed with DX12 also support DX11. Maybe in 2017 we will see some major released games made primary for DX12.

a 1080p image on a 4k screen looks the same as a 1080p image on a 1080p screen.
if you have two 32 inch monitors, one 1080p, and the other 2560p, and they're both displaying a 1080p image, niether will look more or less sharp.
chances are the 4k panel is IPS so it'll look better in that regard, but sharpness is the same.

Thanks to everyone who was writing in this thread.
I decided that I'm going to buy the Inno3D gtx 980ti ichill x3 ultra
