Is it time to upgrade gaming PC

Hello everyone.
I am currently running:
AMD 8350 OC to 4.6ghz on an ASUS sabertooth 990fx
16gb Kingston HyperX RAM
ASUS DCII AMD HD7970
Corsair AX860 PSU
with a 500gb hdd-from my really old pc-world pc and crucial M4 64gb ssd. (these are being upgraded very very soon)
The gpu and cpu are custom liquid cooled-also being upgraded soon.
Monitors-Asus VG248QE 24-inch 144hz and the crappy 1366x768 from the old pre-built machine.

Basically I have chosen to upgrade ssd to samsung 850 evo 500gb as boot drive and main programs and then 2tb WD black for the bulk of my storage-films, games, music etc.
I am also upgrading all my watercooling gear-this is all being re-done and cant be bothered to list the parts sorry.
I would like to upgrade my cpu, motherboard and gpu as well.
But the question is-is it really worth it as it stands?
Should i grab a 970 or 980 or wait for the amd 300 series?
Should i grab a 4690k or 4790k or wait for the next generation?
What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance?

Realistically, no if i were in your shoes i wouldn't upgrade the CPU and motherboard.

But i would definitely upgrade your GPU to a 290x 8GB model, cause why not.
I have a strong feeling that AMD is going to re-brand that 290x to the 380x simply because AMD has nothing to offer in 2015 besides GPUs and it makes no sense for them to discontinue that card what so ever. and it will be an excellent upgrade for your games, and the extra VRAM will help for your Video editing or whatever you wish.

i would definitely get a new SSD, but maybe not a 500GB SSD, No amount of programs requires that amount of storage and using it as a boot drive i'm sure that a 240GB will be sufficient.

to sum it up

  1. Keep the Motherboard and CPU
  2. Upgrade your GPU to an R9-290x 8GB
  3. Grab a 240GB SSD or 256GB SSD.
  4. Maybe get a a new monitor, an extra monitor will help with your productivity.

Well it honestly is going to depend on hat games you play. I had/have that same build. But I upgraded it and got two 970s and it's great. So as far as the games you play it comes down to do you play for cpu intensive games? Or more gpu intensive games? The fx8350 is an awesome little cpu for the money and won't have any issues in games. The only games I have seen issues in it is with arma 3 and guild wars 2. But those are very very cpu intensive games. But even then it's fine in my opinion. Im sure someone will come on here all but hurt ranting how amd sucks and Intel is best blah blah blah. Intel does have better CPUs right now but if you just playing some games and daily desktop stuff your cpu is fine and I would upgrade when next gen Intel comes out. So ya long story short I would upgrade the gpu. You could get a 970/s or a 980 now or wait tell the new and ones but there is no gearuntee how good it will be. My two cents is get a 980 or two 970/s

Even if you are playing more cpu bound games... your cpu is still fine so upgrade your graphics card first.

Thank you,
I was thinking of a 970, but i will wait to see what the amd 300 series has to offer.
I am also thinking a G-sync monitor if i do go with Nvidia or freesync if i go AMD.
Thank you guys for your help again!

dude, yer CPU is FINE
never hertz to have more GPU tho
