Is it possible to stream games across college wifi?

Hey guys! I’m wanting to stream games from my desktop in my dorm room to my girlfriends dorm. Is there anyway this is possible?

Are the computers on the same access point?

If not, then probably not

It really depends on the internet speed. You should be on the same network so it might work.

If your going to try this on wireless N or 2.4ghz then I'm just gonna say forget it

it's possible

yeah nope

Both would be on a wired connection. I don't know much about networking but all of the routers are the same I think. I don't have to sign into each individual one. Software wise how would I stream across?

Steam in home streaming for steam games. Other than that is not so easy.

Short answer:
Probably not.

Detail:
I've worked in university IT, I doubt they keep ports/access open for those types of things, even if you're on the same access point and wired. Even if, I'm not sure if it would work for long before you flag something on the network. I highly doubt they would have allocated access for steam too.

To build off of what @Ramiel said, if you're on a school network then you likely don't have a public facing IP . If this is the case then you will need to route through the campus network which likely wont be configured for/allow that. The only way to get around that would be for put both machines on a VPN that is outside of your campus. This would add a lot of latency to your connection and probably wouldn't be good for streaming on.

Um yeah no. Both devices would be on separate vlans. This would also violate your schools network access policy

If we're talking about steam streaming then as far as I know it only works if both devices are on the same layer 2 network. So if the network between the two devices is routed in anyway it's not going to work. I would imagine that on university networks all the devices are isolated from each other for security reason so I doubt it would work, but you can just try, if you don't see the other device then it doesn't work, simple as that.

Make an openVPN access server on your dorm network, then log on to it wile at the other dorm. i do this and it works.
EDIT: make a local network and then setup openvpn access server behind a router of yours.
