Strange request here, I got out of the military a few years ago and kept my ID card used for computer and hangar access. Wondering if it is possible to rewrite the chip in this thing to play around with access to my own personal machine, or build some kind of physical lock? All I have is a commercial SMART card reader, and of course, the common access card (CAC).
For those unfamiliar:
Very, very difficult. They have a fair bit of physical and logical protections. That one is FIPS 140-2 compliant; it’s easy to screw up and force a permanent zeroing of the cyrpto engine. You’ll also need DMDCs private keys to satisfy the ISD connection IOT clear the applet data.
I mean if I’m honest, I never expected it would be even possible, but I do still like the idea. Can one reprogram other card chips? I’d like keeping my key in my wallet like that.
Nice try, fed
(just kidding)
(Or am I?)
What about a USB drive in keychain form?
