Maybe they can host a github repository and have the community program the app? This would be cool. If you made an app and gave it to them i'm sure they would be grateful. Making an app and the posting it up on the play store for you to make money off of is probably a no no
Yes why not, I have created some TS media, not any apps though
PM Wendel, there was a push to do this for IOS a year or so back, he may have a gethub already setup.
Anything I could do to help let me know, definitely try and get this going!
I agree with Fa1alErr0r, I think the tek syndicate crew should make a github repository so that the community can contribute. I'd be totally up for helping!
+1
I would also love to contribute
Was this not asked before and Wendel basically said that there were legal issues over who owned the code and because of that the community really should not do it.
Might just be bad memory I can't find the post now.
I believe you are correct but couldn't they set up a system under some opensource license whereby all submitted code is owned legally by Tek Syndicate but created and edited by the community?
Oh yeah and I believe this was the outcome, or at least what was the thinking about what should be done but then it went away again.
Again i will say I only read it in passing and my memory of it is not good so I may be talking nonsense.
I just have an icon on my phone that goes directly to ts. Its by no means an app, but it works :\
build and/or contribute here:
https://github.com/wendelltron/tekapp
or I can create an android repo as well. there is a thread that describes the json stuff that's been setup. There is a whole service api that should be epically awesome
also, found the old thread: https://teksyndicate.com/forum/inboxexe/tek-syndicate-android-app/174138 if that doesn't have something app folks need, let me know. that should work
probably we should just hire interns to do it for us anyway.
I don't agree with hiring interns for the app. We have enough developer minds here on the forum that would be able to contribute to the app.
I'd say mention it a couple times in upcoming videos, gather a small dev community, and see where it goes.
Yeah we ought to be able to bang this out with help. Any ideas for the value add?would love to sell for a buck or two to help fund other stuff but free version is also good .
Some folks wanted to help by putting their ad acct on it but honestly I could take a few days off work and bang this out probably.
Here's an idea:
If you become tek support ads will go away in the app. That is, if you wanted the app ad-supported.
The website is that way now. We would probably make a form where Tek support folks can request a free no ad code for sure
And maybe an in-app purchase somewhere in the app (like, say, in the settings menu) to become tek support. That way it's simple, a couple taps and done, paid with the user's google account.
why have a form? doesnt the website already know if you are a tek support member or not. so app is free with ads but in the json, we parse for if you are tek support. if you are, dont draw ads. might not be possible i guess because i havent done a lot of android programming but sounds reasonable
