I’ve been using https everywhere since watching the internet security video a few months ago and am curious to find out if it’s still the most secure (non-vpn) plugin around. I can’t even remember how long ago it was that I watched that video so that’s why I’m double checking. I’m also unclear on the way https everywhere works. Whenever I type in the url for an internet site I manually punch in https://blahblahblah.whatever, Should I worry about typing out the whole url if I have https everywhere on? Would really appreciate any help you guys could offer.
I have not heard of any other extensions that do any kind of encryption or spoofing for privacy purposes. HTTPS is the standard, so its the only protocol thats accepted almost everywhere. It should still be secure, yes, as long as the website has HTTPS enabled. The way it works is basically that instead of sending the code over plain text so that your browser can "build" it into the final webpage, it actually encrypts it first, so if there is a man in the middle, he can not see the contents of the packets.
Related to your last question: no you should not worry about typting the whole URL, HTTPS Everywhere will ask the website if it has HTTPS available, and if it does, will switch to that. Now you should be careful because not all links support HTTPS, so then the packets will not be encrypted and HTTPS Everywhere can't do anything about it.
