I'm curious as to why you have chosen to build a system around Z97 instead of Z170? Z170 is a tad bit more expensive, but also contains a lot more features on the motherboards.

I haven't actually looked at that motherboard. I'll get back to you on that

Update: The Z170 looks very good, however it is DDR4 rather than DDR3. If I were to switch motherboards, any suggestions on memory

Z170 is the chipset related to skylake. It's different memory, different CPU, and different motherboard.

Would that mean I'd have to change all of those things?
