I have no idea how feasible this is, or more importantly, if it is even possible. However, personally, I think that Hairworks look pretty bad, at least in the Witcher 3 (the only game that I've played which had hairworks). For my personal tastes, I think that the stock config looks better than with hairworks enabled, and runs a ton better too. Meanwhile, I think that tressfx looks pretty damn good. The performance hit from enabling tressfx in Tomb Raider was about half of what we see with hairworks too. So this has me wondering, is there a way for someone to mod in tressfx? If not from an independent modder, then would it be possible for CDPR to add it themselves? I don't know what the contract between them and nVidia looks like and if they are allowed to use things like TressFX or not, but I would really doubt it if they were. Considering though that they added Hairworks pretty late in the game, iirc, then I have to wonder if they would be able to add TressFX after the fact as well.
The answer is simple. Not possible as it needs to basically hook with the Hairworks functions as an if else statement which you can't on a mod level without doing serious reverse engineering which in turn will probably piss of CD Project and Nvidia since they are about the worst company possible at this point.
Yes CD Project can do it themselves but then they go against TWIMTB crap of Nvidia which will result in lawsuits etc etc so don't expect them to do anything like that.
In other words it will never come.
once they release red engine, i'm sure we'll see mods. Doubtful it work like that, but if we ask them nicely to allow us change parts of it (dll's.) then we could remove change it to something else. but then again i never looked into availability of source code for tressfx. (then again maybe we'll have to pay for access to engine code, still i consider this red engine 3 better than cryengine 3)
cdproject will be cool with it Hakker. NV will whine, but its not their game so they won't act at all. (if they do, then nv image will turn into crap, as they've stated that they don't cut developers from implementing other technologies, and tressfx could've been in game if amd came to cdpr.
There's possibility if you open up thread on AMD and CDPR forums about adding tressfx for gamers.
there are work arounds to reduce the tessaltion of hair works
Unfortunately no. And if it were to be added through mods nVidia would torpedo it legal or not. Especially if it turned out that it ran better then their own work, and enabled 700 series card to be competitive again. They would be on it so fast it would make you wonder why they can't be that quick and efficient with their code.
