Hello, I am currently getting ready to but my Gaming PC but don't know if I need a sound card for my Astro A50's to travel 7.1 surround sound, or if i can just use the optical In on the mother board.Oh and don't know if this makes any difference but the Astro A50's uses dolby digital live.

Yea you need a soundcard that has optical out. Plug the the optical cable from your computer to the wireless mixamp and you're good to go.
so does the sound card have to have DDL? and what one would you recomend?
optical on the mb is fine for music, if your going to a reciver. if your pluging your headphones into your pc you will need a sound card and if your playing games. sound cards will have software that will make your Gaming world more immersive. Also if you want to record audio you will need a sound card. the only other thing i would say is if your optical audio dosent support 24bit 192k then you should get a sound card if you have HiFi music files.
find your price range and buy an asus xonar but not theasus xonar phoebus!!! KiLL it With fire!! ( the creative labs soundblasters are better than the asus xonar phoebus)
