i currently have an msi 560ti hawk. i cant overclock it, even though i over volt it. anyway, i was looking at getting a latest generation card. i wont be able to get a 680 for a long time. so i was thinking about getting a 660ti now, then maybe getting another later? i know the card is starved for memory bandwith, but is there a way to increase it? i was thinking aboiut getting the asus DCU2 version of the card, then maybe overclocking it? anyway heres some of my specs:
i7 2700k (gonna oc to 4.5ghz hopefully), 16gb 1600mhz ram on an asus p8z68-v/gen3.
that should be all the things that would effect/bottleneck the power of the gpu?. i have plenty of coling, so thats not an issue.
No, a 660ti isn't worth it. They are great cards, but should be priced in the $160-190 range instead. For that budget, get a 7950 instead; a 7870 Tahiti will work, as well.
What software are you using for video and photo editing? For Adobe Suite CS6, I think only Premiere and After Effects use CUDA. I don't know about the others, but I do know that Photoshop CS6 is using OpenGL and OpenCL. If you don't use Premiere or After Effects then it's better to choose the 7950 over the 660 Ti since they are both about the same price but for gaming the 7950 really beats the 660 Ti.
Hell no 560 ti draw's 180w more than the 660 ti and runs a lot hotter. Also the 560 ti might have more "raw" power but in 75% of games the 660 ti will come out on top with the exceptions being games that support SLI well such as Crysis 2 especially with the newer nvidia drivers.
i use after effects, i am getting photoshop, and i currently have a video editor called movie plus by serrif, i think it may take advantage of CUDA, but i doubt it. the only other thing that concerns me is the amd drivers and u.
i personally have never ever had problems with amd's modern drivers so i dont think thats a problem anymore so if you arent using cuda or it wont effect you i would say 7950. more proformance for the money and they overclock like crazy if you want to squeeze every last drop of proformance from it.
