Is a 430w psu adequate?

currently I am looking to upgrade my gpu in my main rig. I was going to take my old gpu and put it into another rig i had laying around to use for a lan setup. The set up is a athlon II x2 (I plan on upgrading to a 4350 when it comes out), 8gb ram, and 500gb hd 7200rpm.and a corsair 430w psu. The gpu I will be putting in to it is a cypress 5870 2gb. Newegg says i should use a 500ish watt psu but other wattage calculators state the consumption will be around 370watts. Any suggestions? I really don't want to buy another psu since i will be tempted to build something with my left over 430w psu.

haha i done that i have my main rig, htpc and a and  buget build. ya that psu is fine for what you need it always on sale on newegg

the 4350 is out

and a 430W will not allow you to OC at all. since it will be using 86% of it's power, i'm guessing yours is rated for 80%... yea bump it up to a 500W you'll be able to OC and have some headroom

that PSU might burn up because at max load your parts will be drawing more power than it can put out.

didn't know it was out already. I didn't think it was going to be 125W either. I may just opt for the 4300 and stick with the 430w. I'm not worried about overclocking since I don't know what I'm doing when It comes to that. I still have yet to OC my 1090T.

NJM1112 is right you should upgrade your psu the 5870 is a hog

Thanks,

your system with the 5870 uses 86%+ of the PSU wattage. the PSU is only rated for 80%.... It will have issues.

ya i read it wrong i though it was 6870

the 5870 still uses more than the 6870 though :P

ya i  940 at 3.6ghz had a 6870 on a antec neo 400 watt for over a year.
