So you’re saying people should know to go straight to IRS.gov rather than using Google, is that it?
That doesn’t align with how people actually use the internet. If you hear from your buddy that maybe you can file your taxes for free, you google “free tax filing” and that won’t get you anywhere.
That’s the whole point. These companies are obligated by law to offer the free product, but they make it as difficult as possible to find, essentially preying on poorer people.
They are not preying on anyone that can read. They are actually attempting to manipulate you and your patience.
I fully agree that it should be simple and direct in things like mandated tax filings. Government IT is still in the stone ages at certain levels.
Turbo tax has yet to collect a fee from me ? They are certainly selling my data to the world.
