So the Iphone 5s will have this new feature which basically allows you to unlock your phone with your fingerprint. At first I thought it's a pretty cool feature but then I found this (http://9gag.com/gag/adN7wo9) and I felt stupid for not realizing it. Since the Iphone is the most sold smartphone they can get acces to many peoples fingerprints. What do you think ?
Seems pretty accurate to me. NSA gets fingerprints, Apple gets sales.

Well finger prints isn't a problem really the government already gave it in data bases like every time I have go to a foreign country and come back I have to do a hand print check thing (real scientific I know :P) plus I'm more worried about the accuracy of the scanner. And what about cases like the water proof ones or the ones that will keep your phone alive through nuclear apocalypse...
Yes sadly there are companies that make that kind of cases but it still would be bad if they have to go away. Think of their jobs
Most children in schools, and most jobs require a fingerprint to be taken anyway. as well as anyone with a criminal record.
The government already has your fingerprint.
Oh well. What are they going to do with it? They're the government. If they want to take something from you, they will. if they want your bank account, it's theirs.
They own you, and you don't even know it.
I'm waiting for Apple to patent fingerprints.
And fingerprint scanners. And scanners by proxy. And the glass used by scanners, then the glass in your windows, then your home. Soon, apple will patent you yourself.
Exactly what I was thinking. Many websites are calling it an "apple initiative that brings biometrics to the mainstream". WTF?? I have an old acer laptop bought in 2008 that has a scanner right beneath the trackpad. This is just apple propaganda and probably a last minute addon to fool people into thinking that they innovated something. It's like the "retina" display, new logos on ios7 and lightning port again and again.
the atrix 4g had this........
ahhh I smell a lawsuit
I love fingerprint scanners, they're so easy to crack.
So far I've tested everything from laptop fingerprint scanners to $9000 biometric scanners. Always the same result. Go find 20 random people and one of their finger prints almost always unlocks the device due to the high false positive ratio built in to the device.
If you are thinking about getting the 5S, use the PIN instead.
"most jobs require a fingerprint to be taken"
What? what dystopian society do you live in because where i live I've never needed to give my finger prints
Any government job, healthcare job, any high security job, any non retail job, really.
So much hype for something that has been into phones for years. That's apple ladies and gentlemen.
In the keynote Tim Cook said that the fingerprint will be handled only at hardware level, so the software won't have access to it... Well I am looking forward to what the Jailbreak Community has to say about this.
Its a fingerprint scanner. not that big of a deal.
Also, the scanner HAS to have software behind it, or it would do nothing. I would say Kernel level, but it has to be able to store and remember fingerprints.
It might not be accessible, but there WILL be software for it.
Even if there isnt, the kernel will still control it. Make an app with kernel level access, which can be done, to do whatever you wish with it.
I'm seeing spam...
