Well Microsoft spying on users is a thing that's been going on for a long time. In fact, there are security setups that aim at making attackers and corporate backdoor men believe that they're watching a Windows system, and that they're keylogging and skimming data, but in fact, it's just a diversion that's running on a linux system. A lot of people over here change their client identifiers of applications in linux to windows, so that the system identifies itself as a surveillance-enabled windows system, whereas in reality, it's a secure linux system. The reason for this is that certain websites and services, like some banks and commercial entertainment companies, refuse/block non-Windows/OSX clients.
