For all you guys and gals who used VPNs a couple years ago and quit due to laggy degraded service times have changed
I signed up with PIA couple of days ago. Haven't seen any increase of speed with Netflix or Youtube. I did some speed tests:
Currently on US East server
With the VPN on Connecting with Time Warner server
Same server with the VPN off
Now Connecting with Atlanta,GA Comcast server VPN off
With VPN On
Then i decided to test another server in Atlanta,GA (hosted by Tulix Systems Inc.) with the VPN On
VPN Off
Another Syracuse server (hosted by Punk Media)
VPN Off

hmm. I don't use PIA. I'm in China and I need a VPN to check a lot of websites that the great firewall blocks. On top of that I have to use a special type of VPN which my provider calls "stealthVPN" to make sure the great firewall dosent deny my VPN as it actively seeks out and stops a openVPN from doing it's thing.
Clearly, I don't have a full understanding of how all this works but in my experience by doing speed tests I almost always get higher pings with increased up/down. Sadly, China internet sucks in the first place so I wasn't expecting anything amazing. I just want to be able to get access to the things I like to use.
Yeah, you're in a different boat than most people here. You're trying to actively bypass a firewall rather than get around poor traffic shaping in order to get better performance. So, sadly, you're priorities are going to be a bit different.
