Internet Protocols and Cables

Hi,

So I finally lost my shit with the Wifi connectivity of the router in my dorm and decided to pull a Cat6 or Cat5e cable from the router to my dorm room. But when surfing for cables I saw that there were UDP Cat cables, FTP Cat cables and SFTP Cat cables. Which stumped me, I recognise the acronyms of the internet protocols and never stood still that different cables could be used for different internet protocols. Is this true? Or do I have something mixed up. Clarification would be nice :D

They're not the same thing, I think you meant UTP not UDP. UTP is unshielded twisted pair, which is what pretty much all cat5 and cat6 cables are. This is all you need. I think the others are FTP and STP which are foiled twisted pair and sheilded twisted pair which are used for 10gbps networks. At the end of the day they will all work but all you need is UTP cat5e or cat6.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.
