Internet problem

As of a couple of days ago, my internet started acting up, in a bizzare way. When I say birzzare, I mean that any browser works compleatly fine, downloads with the usual speeds of a whopping 8mbit/s, but apps and games, will litterally be almost unusable due to high ping/latency. The programs I’ve experienced problems with are Skype, CS:GO , League of Legends, and a couple of Steam games. Pretty much all online games and apps. I’ve checked both the router, changed the internet cable, heck I even changed internet provider in my confusion. I also checked if the network card was running half duplex, but that wasn’t the case. Not too long ago, I installed a new Synology NAS which worked flawlessly on the current connection, but to be able to use it I had to get hold of a small switch, which I had no problems with whatsoever. The point of the switch story is, that when I now unplug the switch and pull the cable directly from the router to my pc, the LEDs turn red/amber, where before when it was taken through the switch, the LEDs were green. I don’t know if this means anything, but I found it concerning to say atleast.

Am I gonna need a new MOBO? Or is it a software thing?

No Idea what the problem is, but the colour of the lights on your network port indicate the link speed, so presumably the switch is gigabit and the router is 100mbps, or vice versa. It's not anything to be concerned about.

i would say get a new switch
