Hello, I did some googling around before deciding to post here but I cant seem to find a full awnser.
If I use 'incognito' mode on google chrome, am I completely private from being monitored? Lets say I don't have any virus' or anything aswell.
I live in the UK and I am wondering if the government can monitor the websites I go on whenever they want to? If so, are there ways of being completely private from them?
Incognito does nothing for privacy but disable history and cookies on your local machine. You need a vpn and probably a proxy on top of that. There are several providers. One example
You're going to want to install some extra plugins to block tracking websites. Everytime you see that stupid little facebook button or any of those tracking buttons, that means Facebook is watching you, even if you don't have an account. The following plugins are for both Chrome and Firefox and will stop this behaviour:
Also, you're going to want to kill these things called LSOs. They are like a super cookie and can be used to uniquely identify you across websites, and is one of the ways that Facebook tracks you. Use these plugins to kill them:
Everyone else pretty much covered it but I'd also like to add in that at the end of the day, nothing you do over the Internet will be truly 100% private. So just keep that in mind.
The uk monitor http and recently installed hardware so they can monitor https traffic too. Alegedly they only record the header so things like the url of the site and your cookies so they can login to the site as you.
But don't worry about them peeping on your porn and reading your saucey emails as they are talking about putting up a big firewall that will block all "Adult" content.
I for one am glad our governmet is violating my privacy to protect me from feeling violated... Oh wait thats not right at all.
