Hello everyone!
I recently upgraded to Charter Spectrum which promises 60 Mbps and I am definitely getting 60 Mbps when connected directly to the modem. My questions are as follows: whenever I connect my router (a Netgear WGT624 v4 a very old router granted), I get about 18 Mbps maximum over wireless and about 38 Mbps over a powerline adapter connected to the router. My router is supposed to support up to 108 Mbps and its only broadcasting 18? and this is sitting right next to the router.
Is this a sign for a router upgrade or can I fix this somehow?
Thanks for any help!
if it's old. it's old.
sure it's not MegaBITS vs MegaBYTES?
True, but 60 Mbps is old too.
Its Mbps. I wish it were MBps.
Do you live in an area with a lot of neighbors? I have found that in populated area's (college dorms are the absolute worst), you can pretty much forget about high speeds over 2.4 ghz. I don't know much about powerline adapters, but if you want good speed you need to get a 5 ghz router. Naturally this means you will need a 5 ghz adapter as well.
If its an old computer my bet is its got a /b wireless nic in it. May be hardware related.
also try a wired connection first. Always wired.
if you are wireless you NEED a new router to meet the higher speeds. end of story. what @crazymobster said is also true.
also remember wifi is only as fast as the slowest device connected.
i had the 100Mbps with this router http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002HWRJY4?tag=price222-20&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER wifi to phone 98Mbps
Many customers got this one http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RYYZZS?tag=price222-20&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER it should work for you as well if you want a cheaper one.
