So I'm having a little problem here, and before we get into it, I've already unplugged and plugged my ethernet, reset my modem/router and restarted my desktop and laptop. Now, reason I say both my computer and laptop is because due to reasons I have to use my laptop as my modem for my desktop, so at all times my ethernet is plugged into the laptop for my desktop to get connection, and my laptop runs indefinitely until I turn both computers to sleep.. However, every single day, I have to reset my modem/router because the internet connection on my desktop degrades over time until there is no connection whatsoever. Now the first thing I would do is unplug and plug my ethernet to see if that fixes the problem, and it does, but only for about 30 seconds and then there's no connection again. Tried troubleshooting through windows 10 but to no avail. Finally I reset my modem and boom, connection again. Now something I noticed is even though the connection to the computer will stop after a period of time, the laptop and all other devices such as the phones and amazon fire stick still have internet, and it runs at regular speeds. So I've come to the conclusion that there's something blocking the connection from the laptop to the computer after a certain period of time, but I could be wrong and it be something else entirely. If anyone has any thoughts and fixes to this, I'd love to hear it, because resetting my modem everyday is getting very annoying.
Can you please write down a full network map for us? All devices in the chain, in order and connection type from the physical connection to the premises, to your final computer.
Sorry, honestly not sure how to do that.
An example would be moden to router via ethernet - router to pc via wifi - router to laptop via ethernet or whatever
Just list everything in order and how it is connected
modem/router to laptop via wifi, desktop to laptop via ethernet.
hey, can you run a ethernet cable to your modem?
Can't, it runs halfway through our house. I would have done so from the start if it was a possibility.
