Internet Competition is Exploding in Tennesse

I live in Tennessee, and their is a lot of competition for internet. Dozens of different fiber services are popping up and are inching to cover everything. (not me yet :| )

Comcast used to be dominant in my area, but a few years ago a new isp just sprung out and started offering things like 50mbps for 15 dollars. This is not fiber speeds, but it is much better than Comcast's 5mbps for 60 dollars  + CABLE!. The same isp is expanding fiber services in other areas close to hear. They are looking for neighborhood interest to decide where to seed their fiber.

When my dad left Comcast, they called him up and asked why did you decide to leave our services? They were incredibly ignorant to their own business practices. He blatantly said Comcast sucks and they kind of whined "No we don't"

There is this article this article where our politicians are trying to do things right.

Very nice to see..I should get fiber in my area(i can't even get cell service out here) of the U S in three years..Thanks to my electric co-op..I called and talked to them and the real reason it will take so long is..They have some non-compete agreement with the phone company in this area, and with the fiber they can provide phone and some type of cable service..So they are waiting for the agreement to expire..

Hopefully we'll see this continue. I switched to a local fixed wireless ISP in my area. They only offer 5/1mbps vs Centurylink's 20/12mbps DSL, but I want there to be more competition in my area. That's why I stay with them. I also dumped my landline in favor of the Ooma Telo, a free IP telephony service. It's more clear than my landline, I get more features like CID, and it's free. Needless to say, I've had Centurylink sales reps calling me constantly for the last couple weeks.
