Just a little update on my. Intel has initially refused to warranty my i9-13900k despite it still being under warranty until December 2025 according to their site. They claim that the only person who can exercise the warranty on an OEM/tray CPU (non-boxed) is the OEM that originally purchased it. However, in this case I got the CPU from a friend who got them from a place that can’t warranty them on their behalf. So, be careful buying 2nd hand CPU’s on the internet even if they show warranty is intact because Intel will not honor it unless you can go through the original OEM that purchased the chip and get them to send it back for you. This might not be a huge problem for CPU’s with 3-year warranties like the trey units but it is a big problem for now defective CPU’s with additional 3 years extended warranties knowing the chip will fail most likely.
I opened a ticket directly on Intel’s website and included a huge writeup of my problems with the current answer and I’ll see if they respond back and update the thread. I’ll definitely be careful in the future buying 2nd hand processors even if they claim to still be in warranty. Because it’s deceptive when the warranty is valid but your path to get it back to Intel no longer is.
