Intel vs AMD (Need help choosing.)

In a couple weeks or so (month at latest.) I will be building my first pc. My budget is 500 plus shipping.

So which one of these builds will perform better?

Intel http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wlKA

Note: On the intel i will never buy an i7&i5 because of the price.

AMD http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wlNk

APU build for the heck of it http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wlQk

Which is more future proof AM3+ or FM2

So which build will have the best performance in ARMA 2?

If you have a wayyy better deal and better performance than give me a link but it must be less than $500.

I would go with an apu at that budget.... a10-5800k

Well, this ram is cheaper and better than G.Skill's value ram; http://pcpartpicker.com/part/mushkin-memory-996995 .

Try and put more money up and get the Seagate Barracuda 500Gb, it's like 55$. That goes for all of the builds.

I'd WOULD go for an APU build because that processor is better than a pentium or any of those older intel processors anyways, but I don't think it can crossfire with any of the 7000 series cards, so I guess the AMD Phenom build is the best. I'd use the Ram I suggested for it though.

Think you will be disappointed with how low FPS you will get in Arma2 with ether CPU.

You must have no idea what you are talking about.

every one is being dumb. dont go apu that is not future proof. get the am3 quad. its a black edition so you can overclock it decently. Phenom>pentium. that quad will not bottleneck your gpu either so you will be fine there. try to get 2x4 gb of ddr3. uses less power then 4 sticks and you can upgrade to 16gb later. no fanboism here. that quad is better then the dual in gaming and will be more then sufficient for games with that 7850.

here try this

same as your setup but better HDD, better RAM, still have a 85%+ effeciency power supply, save 20 bucks.

I know what i am getting now. And in march i will get a fx 8 core.

wow 23fps with a better card then you are getting......good luck son!

I'm gonna advise you to skip the FX-83xx and upgrade to a 7870, the GPU has a whole lot more to do with frame rate then the CPU.

37 frames is pretty good on very high 1080p...

I can play ARMA 2 on very low and lowest screen res @10fps average for that benchmark. on my current pc

Also I am only going to run all my games @720p because my monitor is 720p.

You said the GPU sucked so here you go

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HR5bvS1GpI

Where are you getting 37fps? the video has the following benchmarks.

Arma2 Bench mark 1 = 23fps

Arma2 Benchmark 2 = 11fps

OA Benchmark = 24fps

And with a better GPU then you plan on getting.

I certainly didn't say "the GPU sucked", the 7850 is a really good card for the money, but stock vs stock GTX 660 TI will give you better FPS.

And im not sure why you posted the video of someone using a Intel Core i7 & 7850, as a comparison your planed rig, taking into account how CPU demanding Arma2 is?

Very High - Not Recording
Min - 26
Max - 81
Avg - 37.993

Look i have seen arma 2 gameplay with a 7770 and 965be playing arma 2 on high at playable framerates.

Look my budget is $500. If you have a better build that will smoke the 7850 and 965 or atleast 10fps+. Then give me a link.

I refer you to my original comment:

"Think you will be disappointed with how low FPS you will get in Arma2 with ether CPU" and I stand by that.

Personally Id save up some more, rather then spend all my money on a rig that will only just play a 4 year old game at playable FPS.

You realize in march i was going to upgrade my CPU right? This was just going to be a temp. I am upgrading to a FX 8350.

if he gets the build i sent him which is similar to the one he has, in march dont get the 8 core, get another 7850. that will give you screaming frames in all games. the fx-83XX may have better multi tasking but core per core the phenom 965 will win. and seeing how games use only 2-4 cores upgrading to the fx-83XX wont give you the frame boost you would expect to see. I would get another 7850 and slap a cpu cooler on your phenom and overclock it past 4ghz. by the way the 7850s overclock extremley well and get nice boosts from it.

I don't understand you pc people. I just recently switch over to pc from console and im currently playing planetside 2 at 30 fps and it looks perfectly fine.

I would be just fine playing games on 720p on low-medium settings. The reason i am going for a 7850 is that i want to be somewhat future proof for a year or two.

Just saying I played Arma 2 at mid settings on an AMD A8 APU perfectly fine..
