Intel SSD 750 Compatibility

This drive was just released and i was wondering if the NVMe protocol needs some sort of chipset support or if it works right ouf the box with current AMD chipsets.

will not work currently with AMD

It will, but you can't use the 2,5" version since it uses Sata-Express and AMD doesn't have any boards with that yet, but the PCIe versions will work.

However if you want to boot from it you need at least an UEFI 2.3.1 or else you can only use it as a non-booting device.

It's not SATA Express, it's M.2 PCI-E with a custom adapter an a proprietary connector.
It's only ASUS X99/Z97 right now. All the others will have to wait for new Bios-Versions to come out. For AMD-platforms it'll be even more difficult because not all of them support PCI-E 3.0. They're still trying to sort that out.

No it does not work with AMD chipsets currently.. unfortunatley

It doesn't have driver support on any AMD board, and the only one that could run it at full speed is the limited run Asus Sabertooth that had pcie 3.0. Although even on that it might be somewhat gimped. It is very unlikely we will see it on 990fx, or A88X. Possibly with the next generation of AMD processors running the Zen architecture we could see support, although that depends on the feature set of those boards regarding m.2 for the add on adapter. Regarding the pcie version, that should work with the Zen boards as long as the driver support comes.

The ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer motherboard has NVMe support with the BIOS from late last year. You'll need an adapter for the 2,5" thing. And as said, PCIe 2.0 will limit the drive somewhat as four PCIe 2 lanes max out at 2000 MB/s (Gen3 is almost double that). These drives can do more, about 2400 MB/s reading. Note that the M.2 slot on that board only has x2 Gen2. limiting the available bandwidth to 1000 MB/s. This is severely limiting, feels like a waste to connect such a fast drive as the Intel 750 to that. The recently released ASRock Fatal1ty 970 Performance has x4 Gen2 M.2, not a s crippling. Seems like a nicer board overall.

I expect the PCIe card to "work" in any AMD motherboard really, with limited performance of course.
Booting from it will not work though. That will probably only work on X99/Z97 with updated BIOS.

Pcper has an article about compatibility

They managed to boot of it on an AMD motherboard, A88X board with an APU.
