"Intel Reveals the End is Near for its Desktop Motherboards"

Well.....well then....

"

Intel just announced that, over the next three years, it will slowly ramp down its motherboard business, shuttering it completely before the rest of the industry shifts to Broadwell-based platforms.

As the company pulls away from the motherboard market, it says it will divert resources elsewhere, focusing on other aspects of the PC industry, such as reference designs for Ultrabooks and all-in-ones, along with its Next Unit of Computing (NUC), which it showed off prominently at CES. Engineering talent previously dedicated to motherboard design will shift to those other form factors, which the company believes represent bigger growth opportunities."

so much hurr durr

saw it on /g/. who buys intel mobos anyways?

Reason for gif^

Agreed with Commissar.. I don't know anyone with an Intel motherboard for a main usage board.

ive seen some intel boards in super low end systems since a lot of the intel boards are cheap, but other than that, nobody even uses them so its not really a loss

If they seriously push this amd will get some business, well,... It depends on how the public reacts. if amd doesn't go all-in-one like intel people might stick with amd for being "Upgradeable"

I've used a few intel boards. For workstations there really good, good cost and high reliability. Not that other boards are any different really. Good boards, oh well.

not really a big loss, im more worried that they will stop producing sperate processors chips and instead start producing SOC boards

I can't fucking stand Intel, or anyone else that keeps pushing all this tablet bullshit. It will be another 20-30 years before tablets are capable of running games like Crysis and FC3, and even then it would probably be a terrible experience unless they invent some kind of "mind gamepad." I have used tablets, and will say they are nifty, I love having my 1200p monitor. There is no way you could get me to watch a movie or play a game on one of those things.
