I got an Intel SSDSCKJF180A5 SSD for free, but it’s dead. BIOS can’t see it, firmware updater can’t see it.
I read some stuff about these drives being rubbish with the old firmware, but I can’t update them anyway now.
It’s got a Seagate BF29AS41BB0 controller, and a PIC16LF microcontroller. I was wondering if maybe the firmware had got corrupted and I could re-flash it, but the controller is a BGA part and the PIC looks pretty difficult to get wires onto. Loads of test points on the bottom side, but no labels.
Is this going to landfill or can it be revived? If it can be revived I might be able to get dozens more…
You should question yourself how valuable your time is. Small capacity SSD’s are pretty cheap now, reviving old ones, that aren’t the best to start with, will be taking up a lot of time.
Alternatively, get that load of SSD’s, test all and keep the ones that still work. Offload the remainder to an e-waste recycler. Chances are every single SSD will fail though.
