Hey Tek,
i want to ask if you guys are doing a review on the Intel Pentium G3258 Anniversary Edition.I know this is not Highend stuff, but would be nice to see something about this CPU.
Asus and others are saying that that you can OC this thing on every H97, H87, B85 und H81 Chipset, but last time Intel was a bit pissed about the OC on the B85 Chipset.
They said something like:
„Intel Plans to release a firmware update That limits processor core overclocking to Intel Z87 WW30'13 based platforms.“ I heard they released something over a Windows Update so the OC is limited...?
I mean who buys a Z Board for a Pentium CPU, that doesnt make sense @ all ;) Wendell did a review on the ASRock Fatal1ty B85 Killer board, would be interresting to see if this board supports the Pentium all the way on Win 7 and 8 with all updates. 4,6-5,0 Ghz is possible on this CPU @ 1,3 Volt plus ;) A test on a H81 mini Itx would be nice too
I hope you guys like the idea
I don't think they have the improved TIM, Capacitors, and I think it has the IVR, I wouldn't expect too much since even the DC with these improvements do not get that good of an OC, and without those you could maybe expect 4.2/4.3 from memory, if your chip hit like 4.5-4.7 it was the god chip. Would be nice to see them do a vid and compare to a FX6300 or something.
The 4,7 Ghz were achieved on a Asus Maximus Ranger VII. But exactly this is my point. Nobody buys a highend board for a Pentium CPU. i would like to see how the CPU perform under a real environment, with a good CPU Cooler of course.
the ASRock Fatal1ty B85 Killer has a 6 phase digital power design and the pentium is not that hungry. I dont think this should be no a problem. Even the Fatal1ty is a bit overpowered for a Pentium CPU, a ASRock B85M Pro4 or a ASUS B85M-G is more like it, for a CPU in that price range
Haswell has been a poor OCer, people seem to run into heat limitations and they seem to need alot of volts to OC, perhaps the Pentiums being dual core wont be as bad. But FYI haswell has not been good OC.
Not sure how to use this website but it overclocks to 4.5ghz easily... with a low end z97 from asrock you can reach 4.8ghz; Digital storm got to 4.6ghz on the stock cooler, while keeping temperatures in the low 80's during load.
If this goes through and actually works, I'd be incredibly interested on how it's pair up with the G3258.
