I bought used Intel Pentium 2.8Ghz proccesor, with 533MHz FSB 1MB cache. I have a ECS L4VXA2 motherboard with a 478 socket that supports my proccesor. When i installed it and boot the computer, all starts regularly except the monitor which turns on with "No Signal". I know that my board supports the CPU but with 512kb of cache, the only difference.(at the moment i use Intel Celeron 2.4GHz)
I also know that the CPU is functional cause I tried it on another board and it boots up ok along with the monitor.
Here are my board specs: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?DetailID=343&MenuID=24&LanID=0
And here the other board I test the CPU (Soltek): http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/chipsets/p4-series/pt800/
I really do not like diagnosing VIA chipsets for Pentium 4s and Celeron D processors. So many driver issues compared with the Intel 865G/ICH5 chipset combo. It's possible that the VIA chipset does not support 1MB L3 Cache CPUs. I'm interested to know if you have the funding to be able to afford a 500-600 dollar PC to upgrade to new computer parts.
I just look at the motherboard page and they do not have your processor listed as a compatible processor, so there's your problem, you assumed that because it was pentium and 2.8 GHz the 1MB cache was not important, but that cache difference means is a whole different type of processor.
That's my old PC that i like to upgrade, but I didn't know that about VIA chipsets. Feel free to make a suggestion about any computer part that I should buy.
Well first off what is your budget, what do you do with your PC, what PC case do you have, and what kind of monitor do you have? With these pieces of information I could help you build a new PC while reusing some stuff you already have to keep costs down.
yeah that cpu is probably not supported with that board. you could try a bios flash maybe, if you still can find any bios updates for it. But Yeah its an ECS mobo, and they have not realy a good reputation anyway.
