Intel Motherboard recommendations

I'm looking to build a new computer with a hd 7970 and an Intel Pentium G3258 processor. Later down the road I will be adding a second 7970 once I get the money along with a better processor like a 4770k. I'm going to go ahead and overclock the cpu and gpu to squeeze every drop of performance out of this pc. Any recommendations on a 200$ish motherboard would really help.

well for $200 you have alot of decent boards to choose from.

Asus Maximus VII Hero for example, very nice board, with decent power delivery components 8+2 powerphase digi vrm´s, 60A chokes, sollid 10k caps. And great onboard audio.

  1. Asus Maximus VII Hero
  2. Msi Z97 Mpower
  3. Msi Z97 Gaming 7
  4. Msi Z97 Gaming 5
  5. Gigabyte GA-Z97X Soc Force
  6. Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming GT
  7. Asrock Z97 Fatal1ty Professional

All very nice boards ☺

Get any known brand z97 and wait for broadwell or get devil's canyon later on. Or a good 4770k (gotta check the batch, cause there are plenty that can't do over 4.3ghz).

$70 CPU with $200 Mobo WAT!!!!!!!!

Z97 is technically for broadwell so getting a cheap holdover CPU till the 5770K is a good idea

Z97 will support broadwell but broadwell will come with another chipset revision

Really? From what I've read the Z107 chipset is supposedly for Skylake on socket H4 (1151). Am I missing something, did the change the roadmap?

Z97 is for broadwell, broadwell will get unlocked K cpu´s, on socket 1150

socket 1151 will indeed be for skylake. skylake will be launched as locked cpu´s only, atleast the first gen will be

That seems really strange that they would make the an entire generation of locked processors, are they going to try to push the overclockers onto 2011-3? Seems a bit too out of left field, even for Intel, I guess we will see what's really going on closer to Skylake's launch and I hope we are not going back to the days of only extreme processors will be unlocked

Skylake cpu´s will be launched as locked cpu´s first, in 2015, just after the unlocked broadwell chips

Unlocked skylake cpu´s will be launched in 2016, a year after broadwell. At least that is what i understand from the intel road maps.

Skylake will be offcourse on a new socket 1151 Z170 / H170 chipsets. with DDR4 support. and what not.

so basicly we will see broadwell and skylake next year. Two diffrent platforms, Broadwell Z97 K cpu´s only. Skylake socket 1151, locked cpu´s only. till 2016 then there will be unlocked skylake cpu´s.
