Intel i5 or i7 with AM3 socket?

just wondering because it have a AMD Phemon x4 955, and what should i get when im upgrading my rig

Intel won't fit in an AM3 socket. If you want to upgrade fx series will work as will Phenom II

so i need a new motherboard then :/

Yup you do

It shouldn't be that bad I suppose you can get a decent mobo for like $50 or you can just upgrade to a better AMD cpu. I'm not sure but is your mobo AM3+ because that's compatiable with the AMD FX Processers

BTW you need a mobo with socket 1155 should work for MOST intel CPU's (ivybridge, sandybridge i3/i5/i7)..... I'm not sure but socket 2011 motheboards for i7 (maybe for the i7 extreme edition not sure though!)

(correct me if i'm wrong :)

Yeah, you need a new mobo. Sorry to tell you that. I recommend what mufc786 said, a mobo with socket 1155 will do you good

1155 is different then 2011. Both are different sockets. The AM3 wont work with a 1155 chip. If you want a cheaper upgrade look for a 75 dollar AM3+ with 970 or 990 chipset and a 8350.

I have a ASUS M4A79XTD EVO whick is AM3
