Intel cutting 11 percent of workforce

Saw this at Anandtech

This is a shock. Has intel ever had layoffs since they were a memory company?

Intel layoffs go in cycles. They also have semi-frequent hiring freezes.

I just applied for a position there.

are you a recent college grad (RCG)? Sometimes RCGs will get hired during layoffs and/or hiring "freezes".

they are looking into a different market. think this would only apply for current useless jobs. windows did the same, now has hired the same amount again for a different platform.

actually a lot of times they cut jobs from non-core orgs within the company (folks working on products designed to enter new markets).

In the silicon valley, "hiring freezes" are neither here no there.

I'm not sure what they point of declaring one is since they rarely actually affect anything. I see people get hired during a freeze all the time. I think it may have more to do with "freezing the headcount" quota...

It's working....
