My friend's getting a summer job, and he's decided to build his own computer with the money he gets. He wants an Intel CPU that can run Crysis decently, but nothing too expensive. So what CPUs should he be looking at?
Are you sure you don't mean GPU?
I7 920
E5200
q9***

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037Â (this cpu is also a great overclocker, the E8400---this runs at 3.0 ghz naturally but is a dual core unlike the q6600 which is a quadcore) $167.99 w/ free shipping
I have a E7200 and it can play crysis well, but I think crysis needs a better gpu than cpu? What other components is he getting or got?
Well... Any core 2 duo and above probably runs Crysis fine. What he needs is a better graphics card
my e8400 runs crysis fine. no lags or freezes.
A cheap Core 2 Quad
Ahh, okay. What GPU would be good for running Crysis then?
Decently, GTS 250, GTX 260 C216 or GTX 275
My Q9550 @ 3.0 doesn't even hit 75% load when playing Crysis.
I'm playing @ Very High, 16x AA, 1680x1050, GTX 295, 2x2GB RAM.
i have a q6600 (not overclocked) and it ran fine. remember this game is like 3 years old.
Get a E5200 if he is poor E7200 and OC them or E8400 if he's got money. or make the jump to Q6600/Q9550.
My Intel e7200 Overclocked to 3.0GHZ and my GTX 260 C216 do beautifully, with a average of 30fps on crysis very high (some high) settings, DX10 and at 1680x1050. Not too shabby.
q6600s are fantastic for it, and honestly any intel quad will do. if you're getting a dual core go for e8400/e8500
Do not buy q66 or e84/85. Atleast not the q66. Go for another good quad or wait a bit for the i5
i used an e8400 with a gts250 and it was smooth at ultra high settings. but given that new procs are just around the corner, i'd advise you to wait.
it didnt use your quad core because it doesnt need to. the physics in that game are down to rigid bodies, particles, vegetation and ragdolls sometimes. it really only needs a decent dual core to run.
